Acknowledging Others

Acknowledging Others

Recently I had a retail shopping experience that was so out of the ordinary that I just
had to take action.

My daughter and I were shopping at a local clothing store and we encountered
a sales associate that was so nice and so helpful that I actually took the time to go
onto the stores web site and send them an e-mail telling them about my experience and
expressing my desire to nominate her for any recognition that they bestow on their employees.

As I am writing this newsletter, I also have the sense that I should take it upon myself to send a card or small gift to her at the store in case my e-mail does not attract company attention. I really want her to know how much I appreciate the service that she provided to us.

With Thanksgiving approaching, our thoughts naturally go to who and what we are thankful for in our lives. I would like you to take your gratitude and appreciation to the next level by actually acknowledging the positive actions you see others taking.

When people are polled as to whether they would like money or recognition, most people want to be recognized for their efforts not just compensation for a job well done. How often do you acknowledge the actions that your mate, children, parents, coworkers,
friends and service providers make?  Are you too focused on what others are not doing to notice what they are doing and contributing?

Action Challenge

For at least the next two weeks, I would like to challenge you to take time to notice
the positive behaviors of those you encounter and actually acknowledge them personally and express to them the impacted they have had in your life.

In order to make the acknowledgment deeper and more meaningful, be sure to express how their actions have affected you or changed you. It is not good enough to just say thank you.

Use this phrase:
I appreciate you and what you have done because...

Examples:
kids: my life is less stressful when you pick up your toys.
sales person: my shopping experience is so much more enjoyable.
