Perfect is a Perception
I recently received a newsletter with the topic "Stop Trying For Perfection" Included in this newsletter was this statement.
"We live in a world where being perfect is an accepted goal, and anything less does not measure up."
My question to you is... who is doing the measuring? Are you measuring your success or are you basing your success on someone else's idea of what is perfect?
Perfect, in my opinion, is in the eye of the beholder. What is perfect for me may not be perfect for you. I have a friend that always makes her bed even when she stays in a hotel. That habit, goal, desire, whatever you want to call it is perfect for her
because she feels happy and complete when it is done.
I, on the other hand, never formally make my bed. I like going to bed and having my covers exactly where I left them in the morning. Typically, no one other than my husband and myself ever go into our bedroom, so this arrangement is perfect for me.
Another statement in that newsletter..."being perfect has a downside; it is extremely draining". The only way for the bed situation to be draining for my friend is if she doesn't take the time to make her bed one day and she worries about it all day. The only way for me to feel drained is by making my bed everyday just to live up to some parental training I received when I was younger or that it is socially more accepted to have your bed made everyday even when no one will ever see it made.

Action Challenge
Think of situations or habits that you have established that are perfect for you and your lifestyle even though someone else might do it differently.
Do these situations make you feel good or do you sometimes feel guilty?
Think of situations in your life where you do things in a certain way just to live up to someone else's standards.
Do these situations make you feel good or are they draining your energy?
If you have more situations in your life where you are doing things just to live up to someone else's standards or societies idea of how things should be done, what adjustments can you make that will allow you to live a life that is more perfectly matched
to who you are and what is important to you?
